GEBIS is privileged to have 15 guests from UPEI Seniors College on the morning of May 20. For their last session of the “Religious Diversity in Canada” course, the Buddhist monastery became their classroom for a talk on Buddhism and a campus tour.
The great encounter was initiated by the professor and facilitator of this course — Dr. Rev. Andrew Richardson (Trinity United Church in Summerside). Seniors carpooled from Charlottetown for a 45-minute drive and arrived our Little Sands complex in southeastern PEI with visible excitement.
Abbot of GEBIS Ven. Ru-Jing greeted them with warm welcome, followed by a presentation of the monastery and its related study program and projects.
Ven. Xing-Su facilitated a soulful and lively discussion with the group, and gave a guided tour at the prayer hall introducing Buddha statues, butter sculptures, and scriptures. The guests shared the aspirations for peace and harmony by ringing the bell.
The guests were joyfully immersed with the hospitality and enriching culture. GEBIS admires these senior citizens for their quest for lifelong learning and openness.
