Creating a Healthy, Harmonious, and Joyous World

The Great Enlightenment Buddhist Institute Society (GEBIS) is very pleased that Year 2012 marks its fourth year since GEBIS established its monastery in Prince Edward Island. With all the generous support from the government and Islanders, GEBIS was able to organize many Buddhist meditation retreats in the past years. At the end of 2011, an average of 650 monastics and over 800 lay practitioners from different parts of the world, has attended the learning programs at GEBIS. GEBIS is gratefully and diligently working towards the goal of bringing genuine happiness to all beings. In 2012, GEBIS has planned to initiate more activities focusing on physical, mental and spiritual growth. Besides maintaining and strengthening the on-going systematic training programs for the Buddhist monastics, starting from April of 2012, GEBIS will organize a series of intensive short-term meditation retreats to help lay Buddhists advance their practice throughout the year. On top of the excellent faculty and Buddhist teachings, the serene and pleasant environment of PEI is a wonderful addition to the undertakings. The participants will surely leave with beautiful memories. Furthermore, in order to accommodate the increasing demand from both the monastic and lay communities, GEBIS will continue to expand its campus and create a capacious and nurturing learning environment.

In addition to continuing its Buddhist education program in the year of 2012, GEBIS is committed to actively involving itself in community events, including participation in seminars hosted by other organizations, engaging wildlife protection and poverty relief. Since 2011, GEBIS has been invited to local organizations, including Rotary Club, Seniors Active Living Centre, Department of Religious Studies at University of Prince Edward Island, and the Island’s faith groups. It is GEBIS sincere hope that through our joined efforts, PEI will become a healthy, harmonious and joyous society.
